60's to 6 inches and something to bake

More like 8 inches by now, winter wonderland or something!
This picture isn't my house, but for opsec I wanted to take it 50 miles from home, aimed the other direction with GPS scrubbing filters.... ok, it's like 3 miles from home and there was a building in the way of the mountains you couldn't see anyhow.
I got up at my usual time, shoveled, swept, cleaned the car and still got to work early. This leads me to this sort of small snow-time-rant:
On the way to work there was a police car on the side of the road. It was obvious that the car accident was a hate crime. The black car got rear ended by a white car, the white car was covered in 6+ inches of snow and the racist driver only made 2 spook eye holes in the front windshield. Seriously, scream KKK more please with your spook hat looking car.
Why can't people be bothered to clean the windshield at a minimum? How can they not figure out the powdery snow on the hood will blow onto the glass? This then leads to the wipers being overworked and icing over. The horrible chain of event from someone being lazy leads us to a racism motivated hate crime on the side of the road with a grill all up into a bumper. I'm sure it had nothing to do with following too close on slick roads.

Yup, I'm in that kind of a mood. Check out this awesome thing I made last night slightly before midnight:

It turned out really good, but the inside was a little doughy. I'll get the new stove timing dialed in soon, it's spot on and I'm used to the old 1950's model. The above is a blackberry coffee cake thing, here is the evolution:
So nice not needing a pastry board to roll the dough out.
This is entirely from memory.... my brain works in odd ways.
1 C. flour, 1/3 C. Sugar, 2 1/4 tsp quick rise yeast, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp soda.
Heat this up: 1/2 C milk, 1/2 C water, 1/3 C butter (to about 125 degrees) and dump it in the dry mixture. Add more flour until it's dough (I used almost 2 more cups), knead it for 5 minutes or until it's smooth and elastic-like (hey, I never claimed to use real words). Cover and let it rise an hour,
Roll it out and add whatever filling you like. This filling is 3 C blackberries, 2 Tbs. lemon juice, 1/3 C sugar. I boiled the filling the day before for 10 minutes, then tossed it in the fridge so it wouldn't be too runny. Spoon the filling (cranberry would be good around the holidays), stay away from the edges, since when you roll it up it's going to smoosh out. I ended up taking a few spoonfuls out as I got to the end of the rolling process.
Most normal people (yes, if you are reading this, you aren't normal) would put the seam down, but I like color in my final presentations.
Melt 2 Tbs. butter, brush the top of the snake. Add a crumble mix to this ( fork cut together the following: 2 Tbs flour and sugar, 1 Tbs cold butter) and let it rise another 40 minutes or so.

350 degrees for 45 minutes (or 40 if you like it a little doughy, you can see I'm used to being careful on my timing).
There you have it. If you look at the initial fresh out of the oven, it has some awesome color, it carries over well onto the plate. A spoonful of whipped cream wouldn't hurt but it was close to 0:00 and I needed some sleep.

Not that I got much rest, I was riding my bicycle around with a lever action rifle shooting people. When I ran out of ammo I pulled my pistol but the holster came with it (odd since it's a belt loop type holster). That's ok, the old west era I was in had thick wood on the walls to stop the incoming rounds and I finished people off with my M&P Shield.

Welcome to my head, it's a wreck up there.

  1. Your blackberry "snake" looks pretty damn awesome to me. I am going to try this. Thank you for sharing. I have some leftover vanilla cream cheese frosting, that would be terrific on top.
Its ok, Max, my head's a jumble too. Think we will get into trouble because of it?
We have a lot of idiots around here that make holes on the windshield too, mostly just the driver's side though, and then they wonder why they had an crash.
    Take care Max.

    1. Hopefully you cooked it longer than I did, it should sound hollow when you tap on it. Mine was very doughy in the center so it's now in the trash can. I might go for a traditional roll instead of a snake, that might help it cook better.

    1. Tonight is trout, green beans and wild rice.
Saturday is spaghetti and pina colada cheesecake.

The rest of the week is scrounge and left overs.
