Jumbled thoughts

Thanks EPA for doing such a great job and dumping 3 million+ gallons of "toxic chemicals" into the water. I wonder how toxic it would have been had they not contained all of the mine water for so long just letting it sit and stew. I've seen many people around here say there should be tougher mining regulations... right, because the gov't didn't just cause this 'trying to help'.

Riding lawnmower time... perhaps. I'm hoping we can find a good deal this fall/winter. Mowing with the push mower takes a few hours and we want to expand the mowing area into the tree's some more. The problem with a riding mower is we need to pick up a lot of rocks that the previous owners placed around and that's pretty time consuming. I am voting for a small tractor, so much more versatile and spending a couple hours every 2 weeks to mow isn't bad.

2 months ago when I started boxing I could barely get through a 5 minute round and now I can easily go 3 rounds (5 minutes each with 30 second break between). When I think about that huge improvement and then look at my running speed increase I'm really tickled. At the local running store today I actually thought the treadmill was broken as I tried different shoes on... 6.5 mph and it was easy. Even in my high volume running years that speed was a burst, not a pace.

I stalked a new 'neighbors' property, they have an amazing view of the valley and maybe the mountains. I didn't actually walk around so I can't tell on the mountain view. The property is a little further that I thought it was but that's just more running or biking to say hello when they get into town.

Rome (Pompeii and Florence as well), Paris (the beaches and Normandy included), Vegas and then Vegas again. Busy 60 days ahead!

  1. Be sure to see the Palace des Invalides (French Army Museum and Napoleons Tomb). When you are at Pompei, the stores there sell Sorento wood products. Very beautiful. Watch your ass around Naples, those bastards will steal used toilet paper if you take your eyes off it for ten seconds. I'm not kidding. Lived in Naples for four years, it's a hell hole for criminals.

    1. We try to be very careful, especially around groups of children. Small hands and long fingers. We decided to stay in Pompeii a couple of days and possibly a drive to Florence.

  2. Good luck finding a suitable tractor; it can & will make life easier.

    1. If we get one, we will fight over who gets to use it. Nobody fights over a lawnmower.

  3. Glad you stalked the property. Future Spouse is out there at every free moment - couldn't find anyone to level the pad and put in the driveway so FS is doing it. I've been told there is a lot of rock on the property. It makes for great drainage but it's hard to level.

When I bought my tractor (the smallest JD real tractor that they made) I figured it would be perfect for my five flat acres. It's not. It's too small to do anything other than push a little rock, barely scrape the surface with the disc, and mow.

    1. A lot of rock, yes. It makes for some serious work, even when it looks smooth it's full of rock. We've been removing rock and have a lot more to move, it will make the owing easier.
I noticed a lot of rock on your property, most people end up with a large pile of small rocks somewhere.

  4. We found our JD 50 at a farm auction years ago. It is over 60 years old and runs like a top. Auctions are advertised online for your area, I bet. Also feed stores know about stuff like this and also who has good farm equipment for sale. Bon Voyage!
