WTH?
There must be some exotic rare bird across the street, there are groups of 10-20 people with bino's wandering around across the road scanning the tree tops. I'm not paranoid much but it does bother me having a lot of strangers too close to home. Not one of them has waved or said hello, perhaps it's my pistol, angry face or (and?) demeanor.
The yard is cleaned of construction debris, just in time to get the garden going. Oh, wait... it's January still, I have a few months left of winter (and it's going to come eventually).
Here are some more pictures of the kitchen, now that it's organized. We realized there are some plates that have vanished and a few are cracked. Time for new dishes since the ones we have aren't made anymore. They make some that are close, but I'm going to let someone else make the decision on the dinnerware.
Top oven at work, brownies after we made meatloaf. |
That's a new pot, half of our old ones were too thin. |
TEOTWAWKI dog bones on the fridge. |
The faucet is touch on/off. We are enjoying it instead of manual on/off labor. |
Deep sink, in case little people need a bath. |

I'm really working hard on getting stronger and a little leaner. It's sort of counter productive to get bigger but as long as it's muscle I'm happy. The more muscle I have, the harder it gets to run, I'm not tiny and lithe so it's a workout no matter what I do. Being healthy is important, being strong is important, having endurance is very important. The running is going well, a new style, new form, new shoes... I'm never really happy with anything I do, but it's a driving force to excel.
We are hosting a fight night and spaghetti dinner this weekend. Having someone over from work so they know how to get here if TSHTF. Our circle is growing, 3 families and the in-laws, I never would have thought we would have our own survival group. I'm turning into Rawles or something.
the kitchen looks fantastic and i love the additional counter/lip thing behind the sink! i laughed when i saw the Big Berkey - we loved our Berkey until jam made us one out of 2 5 gallon buckets and 3 filters - it filters 5 gallons pretty quickly. glad to hear that you are adding to your survival group - that is always a good thing, Mr. Rawles!
ReplyDeleteyour friend,
kymber
The issue with the berky is it's big and hard to place anywhere but where it's at, without building a platform for it.
DeleteWe only have 2 filters in it but it keeps up with our low demand no problem. The city water isn't too bad on our end of town, so we don't filter the water for cooking.
That kitchen looks wonderful! We followed all your posts on the renovation, anticipating the results, and it was worth it. Having done such labors in the past, we know the aches, pains and frustrations that accompany such efforts.
ReplyDeleteWell done!
Thanks for the kind words. It was a pain just having to wait on other people a few times, or to only work on weekends. The kitchen was last done in 1980 and while we didn't mind it being 'outdated', once you tear one thing out you might as well tear it all out.
Deleteawesome kitchen - really good job max!
ReplyDeletelove that faucet ;-) i am glad you are expending your group - must feel good!
cheers!
Coming from a DIY expert like you, I'm glad you like it. The faucet was the only one in stock that was tall and the right shade of stainless. THe touch feature is neat but annoying too. If you adjust the temp it shuts off, if you bump it, it turns off... but it's nice when you are done handling meatloaf and chicken!
DeleteThe expanding group is neat, certainly a lot more security with everyone but we are still the only ones with a good food base.
I love the kitchen. You did a really nice job designing it. Our kitchen sink has seen lots of baths too!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure those in your group are just depending on you for food and shelter and figure their share will be the extra guard duty and any other expertise they bring with them. That's how it is with the people in my group, but some of them do bring real skills that are far superior to mine.
Strength in numbers, including labor for gardening, harvesting, etc. I know everyone does they best they can, I've been fortunate to focus on food since I grew up with firearms.
DeleteNice kitchen, and nice beer mugs ;-) Greetings from Germany, Volker
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping in! I actually had those mugs in a box for goodwill, then realized they are 25 years old and had to stay. The crystal one is from my gun running days in 3/4 U.S. Cav!
DeleteThere is an inherently opposition between endurance and strength. We are stronger when heavier but run better lighter.
ReplyDeleteI think unless one has some strong sport specific goals the best option is to lean towards the middle. Being able to run like crazy but not help a friend move a couch is no good. Being a super muscle guy but getting winded walking up 2 flights of stairs is no good either.
You are only as strong as your weakest link, so don't have any weak links.
I completely agree. I'm very middle road but often wish I was a lot thinner, but still with the strength.
